Statistics based on the fishermen's catch reports 2002 - 2004
From the statistics below it is most interesting to see that the number of + 35
cm fishes are growing. In the year 1999, the year before we started Gjerfloen Flyfishing,
test fishing showed that only 10 % of the graylings were + 35 cm. And now, in 2004
the percentage is 34!

30 mm rain the last three days and the flow is going up again. No good fishing conditions
at the moment.
3rd of October
Water flow down to 86 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 8C degrees. Rain and windy weather
the last two days did not tempt anybody to visit the flyzone since October 1st.
1st of October
Water flow down to 90 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 9 C degrees. Nice weather and
better fishing again today. Traditional dry fly- and nymph fishing did not work very

Water flow stable 95 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 9 C degrees.
29th of September

9 C degrees.
26th of September
Water flow down to 95 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 10 C degrees. Fishing conditions
are OK, but the graylings were not very willing to eat to day, - very few catches.
The reason might be falling air pressure.

are OK.

22nd of September
Water flow up to 138 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 9 C degrees. The flow is on it's
way down again, but we'll have some rain today too. Therefore the decrease in the
flow will not be very fast. In spite of the extremely bad fly fishing conditions,
Konrad Reithmayer, Hamburg Germany, landed 4 graylings between 24 cm and 38 cm.
See photo gallery.
21st of September
Water flow up to 123 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 9 C degrees. It's been raining
all night, but not today and I guess the flow will culminate this evening at aprox.

now going down again and the water is clear. Fishing this week end will be no problem
even if the water level is higher than normal for this time of the year.
15th of September
Water flow up to 78 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 11 C degrees. It's been raining
all night and I guess that we tomorrow morning shall have a waterf low approx 100
m3/s. Normal water flow in the middle of September is about 55 m3/s. Very little
rain is predicted the rest of the week which means that the flow will go rapidly
down again. The fishing conditions the comming week end will not be perfect, but
with the right methods it will be possible to catch something.
14th of September
Waterflow up to 64 m3/s this morning. Watertemp: 12 C degrees. Heavy rain showers
last night brought the flow up again. More rain is expected tomorrow so we are likely

on the photogallery page.
10th of September
Water flow stable 58 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 12 C degrees at 1 o'clock PM.
4 Swedish fishermen on the fly zone today. Fishing conditions seemed to be very good,
nice weather, nice everything, but the graylings were absolutely not interested
in the presented artificial flies! It is a really frustrating situation, - that
the fish with the small brain is outdoing ours, - again and again.
9th of September
Water flow down to 58 m3/s this morning. Water temp: 14 C degrees at 3 o'clock PM.
6 Danish fishermen had quite good fishing before noon, but even if the weather was
nice and warm the afternoon fishing was not so good.

on the fly zone today. Catchreports are comming to morrow.
2nd of September
The water flow culminated this morning and is now going down again. Watertemp: 12
C degrees at Plassen this morning. Rising fish observed this afternoon and the predicted
nice weather the next days is a good basis for optimism concerning fishing this
week end.
1st of September
Water flow up to 87 m3/s this morning and the water level has continued to go up during
the day. Water temp: 12 C degrees at Plassen today. No good fly fishing conditions
are expected till Friday afternoon.
August
31st of August
Water flow stable 56 m3/s. Watertemp: 13 C degrees at Plassen also today. Fishing
on Monday was also bad. Heavy rain showers last night and today will bring the waterlevel

better fishing the comming week end than we have had for some time now.

C degrees at Plassen this morning.
22nd of August
Water flow up to 64 m3/s. The fishing this week end was not as good as expected. The
rain we had last night and before noon today will lead to a further increase in
the water flow the comming 24 hours. Water temp: 14 C degrees at Plassen today.
20th of August
Water flow up to 58 m3/s. The increase in the water flow will culminate late this
afternoon. If we don't get too much rain the comming days, we shall have good fishing
this weekend. Water temp: 16 C degrees at Plassen also today.

to eat again!
13th of August
Water flow down to 43 m3/s. Water level is perfect on the lower part of the fly zone.
Water temp: 19 C degrees at Plassen at 8 o'clock AM today. I guess the graylings
will wake up again this week end.
12th of August
Water flow down to 46 m3/s. The warm weather continous and even if the water level
is perfect the warm water makes the fish hard to catch. Water temp: 22 C degrees
at Plassen at 5 o'clock PM today. Colder nights and lower daytemp are predicted.
I therefore think that the graylings very soon will wake up again.
11th of August
Water flow down to 48 m3/s. The warm weather continous and even if the water level
is perfect the warm water (approx. 20 C degrees in the afternoon) makes the fish
hard to catch.

makes the fish hard to catch, though I hooked a few graylings on czech nymphs between
0700 and 0900 this morning. Best periods: Late evening and morning.

Water flow down to 52 m3/s. The water level is perfect for fishin. The warm water
makes the fish hard to catch, but not impossible. Best periods: Late evening and
morning.
8th of August
Water flow down to 55 m3/s again. The water level is again perfect for fishing, but
the warm and sunny weather has heatened the water up to nearly 20 C degrees. I guess
there will be no good fishing till we get lower temperatures again.
6th of August
Water flow up to 72 m3/s this morning. No rain since yesterday morning. Increase
in the water level will stop during the day and we shall probabely have quite good
fishing this afternoon.
5th of August
Water flow up to 67 m3/s this evening. Heavy rain yesterday and last night (36 mm
at Plassen) has brought the waterflow up and water temp down today. No more rain
is predicted and therefore i guess we shall have good fishing conditions again tomorrow.
3rd of August
Water flow down to 44 m3/s this morning. Even if the waterlevel is perfect, the water temp
is to high for good fishhing at the moment.

conditions are perfect, but the water temp is to high at the moment.

Water flow down to 53 m3/s this morning. Some rain last night and today will probabely
bring the water flow a llittle up again. Water temp 13 C degrees. The graylings were
hard to catch last weekend. Hatching of different insects at the same time made
it difficult to find out what the graylings really were eating. I succeeded in landing
a nice brown trout (49 cm) before noon yesterday.
2nd of July
Water flow down to 56 m3/s this morning. Water temp 13 C degrees. Fishing conditions
are very good, but hatching is down because of the cold weather. Nymphs are the
best choise at the moment.
1st of July
Water flow down to 58 m3/s this morning. Water temp 11 C degrees also today. Yesterday
the graylings were hard to tempt with dry flies, while czech nymphs worked well.

on wet fly.
25th of June
150 mm of rain since yesterday. Water flow up only 1 m3/s to 50 m3/s this morning.
Still some rain in the air, but a little bit higher temperature than we lately have
been used to. Fishing conditions are very good.
24th of June
Water flow stable, 49 m3/s this morning. Water temp. 9 C degrees. Rain today will
surely bring the water flow up a little tomorrow, but I think the fishing conditions
still will be very good. Weather prognoses for the comming days say rain showers,
more sunny weather on Sunday. This should indicate very good fishing also this week end.
23rd of June
Water flow down again to 49 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are very good.

51 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are very good. No fishermen on the flyzone
since Saturday.

cm: 60. 35 - 39 cm: 30. 40 - 44 cm: 10
16th of June
Stable and perfect water flow for fishing the last few days, but strong and cold
wind from the north has made the conditions difficult. For the week end some rain
are predicted and that might not be to bad if we get less wind.
15th of June
No reports from the power station today. The water level is sinking and I guess that
the flow is about 53 m3/s. Fishermen on Gjerfloen yesterday (see the photo gallery
page)
13th of June
56 m3/s also today. Nice brown trout caught on dry fly at Landsjøen on Friday. 57
cm, 1,9 kg. (Picture below). Nice brown trout tagget at Sagnfossen Powerstation
today, 53 cm 1,28 kg (See photogallery)
10th of June
Flow down to 56 m3/s this morning. Perfect conditions for fly fishing in the streamy
parts of the river. Lots of hatching are reported from the river. The Vulgata hatching
has started at Landsjøen and the brown trouts were very activ after noon today.
8th of June
Some rain yesterday brought the water flow up to 61 m3/s this morning. Test fishing
today showed that the graylings were very willing to take both dry flies and nymphs.
7th of June
Water flow down to 60 m3/s this morning. Some rain today will fresh up the water
and make the already good fishing conditions even better.
6th of June
Water flow down to 64 m3/s this morning. Last year we had the same waterflow as late
as the 7th of September! So low water this early in the season is absolutely abnormal,
but it makes perfect conditions for fly fishing. I was discussing this matter the
other day with an old man, living all his 92 years on the bank of this river. He
had never ever seen such a low water in the beginning of June! It might perhaps
also be of interest that at Plassen we have had only 13.3 mm of rain since 1st of
May!
4th of June
Flow down to 65 m3/s this morning. Nice weather and extremely good fishing conditions
at the moment!
2nd of June
Flow down to 69 m3/s. Perfect fishing conditions!
May
31st of May
Flow down to 70 m3/s this morning. Water temp. 10,5 C degrees. Very good fishing
conditions.
30th of May
Flow down to 71 m3/s this morning. This is a extremely low flow so early in the
season, but it is perfect for the fish and for the fishermen. The graylings have
been rising in large numbers the last couple of days, but no fishermen have been
observed (this phenomena might also be an advantage for the fish...)
29th of May
The flow down to 78 m3/s this morning. Nice weather and very good flyfishing conditions.
Afternoon and early evening are the best periods for fishing at the moment.
28th of May
Waterflow down to 80 m3/s and water temp. 9 C degrees this morning. Nice weather
and rising watertemp is predicted the days ahead. These facts indicates perfect
conditions for flyfishing this week end.
27th of May
Water flow down 5 m3/s to 85 m3/s this morning. The sun is shining again and flyfishing
conditions are very good! Some good graylings showed their backfinns before noon
today.
26th of May
The first graylings are obsreved rising at Plassen! Even if we have had cold weather
for a long period now there has been some hatching. Warmer weather are predicted
from now on and I'm sure that those who have the opportunity to present their dryflies
here the comming week end will go home with some wonderful memories. The water flow
today is 90 m3/s, the same level we had in the beginning of of July last year. This
means that most of the hotspots are wadeable.
16th of May
The water level is going rapidly down. The water flow in the Trysil river is at the
moment less than 150 m3/s. This level is what is normal about the 10th of June.
If we get some more sun now, we might see the backfinns of the first graylings about
the 20th of May. This is 3 weeks earlier than normal. Reports will be comming.
2nd of May
We have had a very early spring again this year. I shall not be astonished if the
first graylings show their backfin as early as the 25th of May (Normally we see
the first rings on the water between the 5th and the 10th of June). It might as
well be that we get a June like the year 2002, the hatching of the different insects
appeared nearly two weeks before normal. Info will come on this website. |
