December
4th of December
Normally we should have had a lot of snow and ice in this area in December. We have
had temperatures down to 20 C degrees below zero earlier this Autumn, but now we
have had a period of temperatures above zero. Even if the water is very cold (about
1 C degree) the graylings are eating a little. This phenomen makes life worth living
for a fisherman!
November
16th of November
Since there has been no fishermen on Gjerfloen Flyfishing for more than a month,
I went out with my fly rod today just to prove that it is possible to make the graylings
take a fly even if there are some snow flakes in the air and the water temp. is +2C
degrees and the air temp. is +1C degree. In a couple of hours with czech nymph fishing
method I landed 10 nice graylings up to 41 cm (all released of course). A nice fishing
trip, but you do not wade out just dressed in a T-shirt this time of the year,...
on the other hand, I can guaratee there are no mosquitoes disturbing.
October
15th of October
Waterflow 75 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are very good at the moment.
We have had cold nights, but nice days the last week and this is predicted to continue
for some more days. This means that we shall have good fishing in the afternoon
the comming days when the sun has warmed up the air and water a little.
7th of October
Water flow down to 88 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are beginning to be quite
good again and the graylings are in the eating mood!
3rd of October
Water flow 100 m3/s this morning. The water is still high, but clear and the graylings
must have food. However, even if the fishing conditions at the moment not are optimal,
it is possible to have quite nice fishing.
September
30th of September
Water flow 108 m3/s this morning. The water is still high, but test fishing today
showed that the graylings are there and they are eating!
27th of September
Water flow 112 m3/s this morning. The flow is expected to incease a lot during the
day as we have had 27 mm of rainfall since yesterday afternoon. Fishing conditions
are very bad at the moment.
25th of September
Water flow very rapidly down again to 115 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions this
weekend are now depending on how much rain we get on friday.
24th of September
48 mm rainfall since Saturday has brought the water flow up to 180 m3/s this morning.
Conditions for flyfishing in the high and cloured water are therefore at the moment
very bad. Some improve are expected towards the week end.
21st of September
Some rain last night brouhgt the waterflow up to 55 m3/s today. Good fishing this
week end and the water level is perfect for wading.
18th of September
Water flow down to 52 m3/s this morning. Fantastic conditions for flyfishing on the
lower part of Gjerfloen fly zone.
17th of September
Fantastic conditions for fly fishing on the down stream part of Gjerfloen at the moment.
Water flow down to 54 m3/s this morning. Czech nymph fishing method is superior, but
in the afternoon it is possible to catch something also with dry fly.
14th of September
Water flow also 58 m3/s this morning. Very good fishing conditions, but no fishermen
on the fly zone this week end. May be one of the reasons is that bird hunting season
has started.
Jan O. Langvandsbråten from Hønefoss with a "Big Black"
12th of September
Water flow down to 58 m3/s this morning. Very good fishing conditions and the temperatures
in air and water are perfect for the graylings.
10th of September
Water flow down to 62 m3/s this morning. Very good fishing conditions and fantastic
grayling fishing in the Trysil river at the moment. Since the beginning of September
we have had nice weather and and perfect water level. This weekend we had the championship
on Gjerfloen Flyfishing and aprox. 200 fishes were landed. Monday and Tuesday I've
been fishing also and I must say: I've been fishing this river nearly 50 years,
but very seldom had better fishing than just now! Let's hope that this weather continue
for a long time. See pictures on the photo gallery page.
6th of September
Water flow down to 65 m3/s this morning. Very good fishing conditions and and reports
from fishermen tell that it's been good fishing all over the river today. On the
slow parts it's even been good dryfly fishing. On the downstream part of Gjerfloen
Flyzone Czech nymph fishing has given best result.
4th of September
Water flow down to 68 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are very good. I am really
looking forward to see what the best flyfishers in Norway can do this week end!
3rd of September
Water flow down to 72 m3/s this morning. Nymph- and dry fly fishermen from Germany,
Poland and Holland had good fishing on the fly zone also today. Perfect watertemp.
and waterlevel near the normal are finally making the fishing conditions very good
again. Predicted nice weather the comming days should generate optimal fishing!
2nd of September
Water flow down to 74 m3/s today. As a result of warmer weather today, we have had
the best fishing on Gjerfloen Flyfishing for a long time. Before noon czech nymph
fishing technique was superior. Later in the afternoon there were even good dry
fly catches. See also the photo gallery page.
1st of September
Water flow down to 76 m3/s this morning. 4 Swedish flyfishermen from Borås had some
nice catches during the week end.
August
31st of August
Water flow down to 77 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are beginning to be quite
good again even if the water still is a little high for this time of the summer.
30th of August
Water flow down to 79 m3/s this morning. Mauro and José did not succeed too well
the afternoon two days ago, but now we have got better temperature than we have
had for a long time and yesterday evening I saw some risings again for the first
time in two weeks.
28th of August
Water flow same as yesterday, 85 m3/s. Two fishermen on the fly zone today, Mauro
from Italy and José from Peru. Catch reports tomorrow.
27th of August
Water flow down to 85 m3/s this morning. Even if the weather forecast predict some
rain showers the comming days, I think we shall have a decreasing water flow.
25th of August
Water flow down to 88 m3/s this morning. The flow is still 20 m3/s more than normal
for the time being, but if we don't get more rain the conditions will improve every
day. Anyway, the fish must have food!
24th of August
Some rain kept the water flow stable on 90 m3/s during the week end. Gjerfloen Flyfishing
have been full booked through the week end. Traditional fly fishing did not worked
very well under the high water conditions, while those who practised czech nymph fishing
had success. See pictures on the photo gallery page.
22nd of August
Flow down to 90 m3/s this morning. The fly zone is full booked till Sunday 24th.
21st of August
Stable water flow on 93 m3/s the last couple of days. Water temp 15 degrees C and
clear water. Alltogether the fishing conditions are OK even if the water is higher
than normal for this time of the summer.
19th of August
Flow down to 93 m3/s this morning. The river is fishable and the graylings must
have food now and then!
18th of August
Water flow down again to 98 m3/s this morning. This means that the river still is
high for this time of the year, but it is absolutely fishable. Heavy nymphs are
the best choice for the graylings at the moment.
15th of August
The heavy rain we have had the last couple of days, more than 70 mm, has brought
the flow up to 107 m3/s this morning. High and coloured water today is not good
for fly fishing.
14th of August
Water flow up to 75 m3/s this morning generated by the heavy rain we had yesterday
afternoon and during last night. The flow is expected to to increase also during
the day. There will probabely be no good fishing before this evening or tomorrow
when the water level begins to go down again.
13th of August
Heavy rain showers Monday afternoon brought the water flow up again yesterday, but
it is now on it's way down agagin, 65 m3/s this morning. Still very good fishing
conditions.
11th of August
Water flow down to 49 m3/s this morning. Superb fishing conditions on the down stream
part of Gjerfloen Flyfishing zone.
8th of August
Stable water flow the last couple of days (52 m3/s) generates superb fishing conditions
on Gjerfloen Flyfishing at the moment.
6th of August
Colder nights have brought the water temp. down and the low water (52 m3/s) makes
the river wadeable on all the hotspots. The fishing conditions on the down stream
parts of the fly zone are superbe! Predicted nice weather the comming also days
indicates good fishing.
July
30th of July
Water flow down to 64 m3/s this morning. Perfect conditions for wading and fishing
on the lower part of the fly zone.
28th of July
Rain showers the last two days have brought the flow up again to 70 m3/s. The water temp
is brought down from 22,5 C degrees a few days ago to 17 C. Alltogether fishing
conditions are very good at the moment. No fishermen on the fly zone since Saturday.
25th of July
Water flow down to 67 m3/s this morning. Lowest so far this year and the fly zone
is now wadeable on all the "hot spots" and fishing conditions on the lower part
of the zone are very good.
22nd of July
Because of holiday time, water flow figures from the power station have not been
available for a few days, but today 73 m3/s is reported. This is normal for this
time of the summer and the river is wadeable. We have at the moment very good fishing
conditions on the lower part of Gjerfloen Flyfishing.
15th of July
Water flow down to 85 m3/s this morning which is not far from normal for the time
being. Just a few more warm days now and we are there! Best time for fishing at
the moment should be in the morning between 8 and 11, and between 11 and 1 at night.
14th of July
Warm and nice weather since yesterday has brought the water flow down again to 91
m3/s this morning. Watertemp. 16 C degrees. No fishermen on Gjerfloen since Saturday.
11th of July
Water flow down from 110 m3/s to 104 m3/s this morning. water temp 16,5 C degrees.
The nice and warm weather we had yesterday generated the best fishing day so far
this season. The 11 fishermen on Gjerfloen Flyfishing were inspirated by a lot of
rising especially between 23.00 and 01.00 in the night. However, it was a bit frustrating
to see that the graylings ignored nearly everything that was served. Ant imitations
did well, and a good number of +40's were landed.
9th of July
More rain yesterday generated the flow up to 105 m3/s this morning. Six fishermen
on Gjerfloen Flyfishing today have experienced that the graylings have been hard
to catch because of the rising water. There will be 10 fishermen on the flyzone
tomorrow and my guess is, with good weather prognoses in mind, that the graylings
will be much more cooperative than today.
8th of July
The rain yesterday rushed the waterflow up again to 95 m3/s this morning. Rain showers
today also, but from tomorrow and the rest of the week we are promised better weather.
This might indicate we shall have good fishing the comming days.
7th of July
Flow down to 89 m3/s this morning. The fishing yesterday evening and night did not
become as good as expected. A northern breeze generated temperature fall and fog
on the water, though there was a rush around 0900 pm. Two Swedes caught 24 graylings
yesterday afternoon, the other 4 fishing yesterday will stay for the rest of the
week and have not yet delivered catch reports.
6th of July
Flow down to 91 m3/s this morning, lowest so far this year. Warmer weather is predicted
the comming days, and my guess is that we from now on finally shall see the river
from its better side! 6 fishermen on Gjerfloen today. Catch reports tomorrow.
4th of July
Water flow down to 103 m3/s this morning and we have had only a few rain showers
this afternoon, which means water level down to aproximately less than 100 m3/s tomorrow.
The warm weather today generated more hatching then we have seen for some days now.
Resting day for the graylings on Gjerfloen today as there were no fishermen there.
3rd of July
The rain yesterday brought the water flow up to 104 m3/s this morning but is this
afternoon on its way down again. The Italians (Team Bologna) caught 30 graylings
up to 40 cm this afternoon. Small midges size 18 was the best medicine today.
2nd of July
Water flow up again to 96 m3/s this morning. 5 Italians on the Fly zone today. Under
difficult conditions with rain and rising water level, they landed 27 graylings up
to 42 cm. We had rain last night and most of the day and the water flow is increasing.
Weather forecast indicates rainy weather till Friday. I'm wondering what I should
do to the Weather Gods to be awarded a longer period with real nice summer weather!
1st of July
The water level goes on sinking. The flow today down to 93 m3/s. Four Austrians dry fly fishing
on the fly zone today caught 25 graylings, but none +40 today. Wind from north east
and airtemp. only 16 C degrees might be an apropriate explanation this time......
The Danicas are still there.
June
30th of June
Water flow down to 95 m3/s this morning, lowest so far this summer. Saturday and
Sunday three Germans caught 25 fishes up to 42 cm on the fly zone. Not a remarkable
high number, but under the unfavourable weather conditions it was not too bad. The
Danica is still hatching.
29th of June
100 m3/s through the Power station this morning. No catch reports from the week end fishermen
yet. Some wind and not so nice weather make me believe that the fly fishing is not
at its best today. The weather forecast says we shall have north east wind, cloudy
weather with some rain showers and temperatures below normal the comming days. This
is not the kind of weather fly fishermen are dreaming of! BUT...even if the weather
is not the best, the fish must have some food.
28th of June
Water flow down again to the level we had on Tuesday (104 m3/s). Coditions on Gjerfloen
Flyfishing are good. I am looking forward to seeing the catch reports from the fishermen
visiting Gjerfloen this week end.
27th of June
Water flow down to 110 m3/s this morning. Danicas hatching in large numbers through
out the day yesterday and this will go on for some days. Water flow, weather and
hatching could indicate that the comming days might be the week end of the year!
26th of June
Water flow down again to 129 m3/s this morning. May be it is the sunshine that has
generated hatching of the danica in large numbers at Plassen this morning. The waterlevel
25 cm above normal for the time being, did not prevent the graylings from chasing
the "Green Drakes".
25th of June
Even if the water level has risen 15 - 20 cm at Plassen since yesterday, the graylings
are showing their backfinns upstream the bridge at this moment (10.30). At Lutufallet
Powerstation the flow went up to 142 m3/s this morning. We have had no rain today
and the river is already falling rapidly down again.
24th of June
Water flow this morning up to 104 m3/s. Heavy rain last night and before noon today
will surely increase the flow later today and tonight considerably. I therefoore
guess that there will be no good conditions for flyfishing again till Thursday even
if we are promised nice weather again from tomorrow. The Danica has been on the
"catwalk", but so far in very small numbers. By the week end I guess we shall see
more of them!
23rd of June
Attension!!! The "Green Drake" (Danica) is observed!!!!! A few may flies were seen
yesterday in the southern part of the Trysil river as well as in center region.
Water flow down again to 103 m3/s this morning. Fishing conditions are good. Weather forecast:
Some rain tomorrow (tuesday), nice weather the rest of the week. Flyfishermen...
you know what this mean... hatching of course...
22nd of June
Heavy rain showers caused an increase in the water flow again the last two days. Today
up again to 104 m3/s. Weather forecast says not much rain the comming days, which
indicates good fishing conditions next week. Yhe yellow one is still hatching and
we are now waiting for "the green drake" (danica) to turn up in a few days.
19th of June
Flow down to 97 m3/s today. The yellow one (gul forsslända) is hatching Plassen
at the moment. The green drake (danica) is not yet seen here, but should turn up
now in a few days. Fishing conditions are good.
18th of June
Flow down to 100 m3/s today. Fishing conditions are good. Some good catches reported
today and yesterday.
17th of June
Flow today down to 103 m3/s, lowest so far this year, and quite normal for the time
being. Even if the weather and fishing conditions are good, not many fishermen are
seen.
15th of June
Water flow down again on 112 m3/s tooday. We had no rain this week end and the the
fishing became better than predicted on Friday, - you never know...
13th of June
Yesterdays rain brought the flow up again to 129 m3/s this morning. Weather reports
say rainshowers and wind from north on Saturday. Better weather on Sunday. This
could indicate that conditions for flyfishing this week end won't be very good,
but you NEVER know...
12th of June
The water flow is today down again on 110 m3/s. The weather is cloudy, but warm and
if this goes on it must be good conditions for flyfishing this week end.
11th of June
Yesterday the flow went up to 150 m3/s becase of the rain we had. Today it is down
on 130 m3/s. By the comming week end conditions ought to be good again. We have
had pleasant temperature and we can see some rising graylings today. From the week end
and the comming week is normally a period when the insects really wakes up.
9th of June
Last nights rain generated an increase in the water flow today, this morning up to
113 m3/s. Yesterday Ulf Olsson from Laxå reported good nymph fishing at Plassen.
A number of graylings between 35 cm and 40 cm. He reported also a lost brown trout
estimated to about 1,5 kg. Today the pikes at Plassen were in the chasing mood and
I was in contact with several between 3 kg and 5 kg.
8th of June
Water flow down to 110 m3/s. As there were very few insects on the water yesterday,
the flyfishermen did not succeed with dryflies an only a few graylings were landed.
The yellow mayfly (gul forsslända) was observed yesterday. This one normally appear
from 20th of June.
7th of June
Water flow down again, 112 m3/s today. 6 flyfishermen on Gjerfloen today. Reports
will be presented tomorrow.
6th of June
Because of the rain showers yesterday the flow have had a minor increase today and
is up again to 117 m3/s. This is not dramatic at all and with no more rain the flow
will be down again tomorrow. The first flyfishermen appear at Gjerfloen Flyfishing
tomorrow and then we'll see...
5th of June
Water flow down to 114 m3/s. Rain showers today might stop the waterflow decrease,
but that we will see tomorrow morning. Fishing conditions at the upper part of Gjerfloen
Flyfishing are good.
4th of June
The water-level rush down continous. Today we have 117 m3/s which is down 9 m3/s
since yesterday. The flow is under normal for this time of the year and this is
of course good news from a fly fisher's point of wiew.
3rd of June
The water level goes on sinking and the flow at the power station today is 126 m3/s.
This is nearly exactly the same we had last year. The graylings are now very active
and today we had for the first time this year, high "traffic" in the fish trap at
Sagnfossen power station.
2nd of June
Water flow has gone down to 140 m3/s today and the graylings are rising. The predicted
weather forecast should indicate nice flyfishing here the comming week end.
1st of June
A couple of days ago we could see the first graylings breaking the surface of the
Trysil river at Plassen. This indicates that fly fishing season finally is here again!
The water flow to day is 150 m3/s which is nearly the same we had last year. The
weather forecast says nice weather the days to come which means water level down and
water temp. up = HATCHING! Fly fishermen, what are you waiting for? |
